Reign of Terror

     A 1971 study by the Los Angeles Times showed that in the three years since Tony Spilotro arrived in Las Vegas, there had been more Mafia-style murders than in the prior 25 years combined. It didn't really matter whether or not Tony was responsible for them; casino insiders and federal and local authorities were convinced they were his doing. The little man's reputation grew rapidly, emboldening him even further. "Everybody on the Strip [is] scared to death of the little bastard," one casino owner was quoted as saying in a different L.A. Times article. "He struts in and out of the joints like Little Caesar."
