     The beam from a lighthouse on the horizon swatted the misty night with a slow tedious rhythm. Black waves capped with a turquoise luster rose from the Pacific, marched beneath the full moon, and collapsed on the beach where they became glimmering, foam-edged sheets that erased a trail of footprints left by an old man.
     He walked near the water where the footing was firm and held his grandson in the crook of one arm. They didn't hear the explosion high above them in the black sky. "It a cold place, Dappy," the little boy said.
     The old man noticed the cooling sea breeze and felt the child silver. He wrapped his arms around him and held him close. "You're almost too big for me to carry."
     "Yep," the boy said as he rubbed the stubble on his grandfather's cheek. "I a big boy." He jerked away and pointed up. "Look, Dappy! Look!" The old man saw a thin, sparkling streak of light, the hand of God striking a bar of flint across a wrought-iron sky. "Make a wish, Dappy. Make a wish."

     Deep in the Nevada desert, on a military base that doesn't exist, the U.S. government has developed the most sinister warplane ever to rule the skies. Its name is Rhombus and it's the pinnacle of man's genius applied to the art of mass destruction.
